Welsh Fireside

This is a wood engraving printed by hand on Simili Japon paper. The block is first inked and then the paper is pressed onto it and rubbed, leading to a transfer of the mirror image.

Using a manual technique rather than a printing press gives me more control over the result of the print and gives each print an individual character.

The print depicts a Welsh cottage scene where a blazing fire provides warmth on a cold evening, illuminating a room in which stands an old Welsh Stick Chair with three legs. The fire lights up the walls and casts a shadow of the chair onto the floor.

The image measures 50mm by 83mm and is printed on paper of approx. 160mm by 240mm.

All prints are hand numbered and signed. This is a small, limited edition of 50 prints.
