This woodcut explores the illusion of seeing perspective a particular way. It connects two perspectives in one print by meeting two rows of cubes in the centre of the print. The illusion is deepened by adding a room to each side and water in the foreground, where the ladders reflect.
Looking at the picture from the left we see a room with a wooden floor and tiles on the wall with a wooden door. The water bucket enhances the illusion of a floor.
Moving to the right, the picture flips around and we see a different room, with a tiled floor and a wooden wall with a window. On this side there is also a ladder standing against the blocks. But when looking back to the left room, the perspective flips around.
The picture measures 122mm by 179mm and is printed on paper of approximately 30.5cm by 21.5cm.
